“Sara”, fifty tons, built at Conyer Quay in 1902, became one of the most successful vessels in theThamesand Medway barge races, winning many awards. Her most amazing and memorable performance was in the Thames Coronation Race of 1937: caught beating the wrong way at the gun, she lost twenty minutes, but eventually won the race ten minutes ahead of her nearest rival.
Presented by Mr. F.M. Everard in commemoration of his year as Prime Warden, 1989-1990. The gift is accompanied by a framed colour photograph of “Sara” running home in the Medway Race on 21st. June 1957.
