The Giants of Guildhall
These models of Gog and Magog, originally presented to Ellerman Lines Ltd. for their cargo liner “City of London” in 1971 by Sir Peter Studd, Lord Mayor of London, were presented to the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights in 1982 by Denis Martin Jenkins, T.D., Prime Warden 1981-2.
The two statues were carried on board the motorship “City ofLondon”, built by Messrs Charles Connell & Co., Ltd. in 1970, throughout her life with Ellerman Lines Ltd. Gog carries a mace, Magog a halbert.
Glass reinforced plastic models. Made 1971 by Martin Evans from his prototype models for the new statues in Guildhall to replace those destroyed during the Second World War.
