Adventures Offshore – An Update

Adventures Offshore is a charity based in Colchester ‘whose goal is simple… to give young people and vulnerable adults from all backgrounds the chance to discover their sense of adventure – and in the process develop transferable skills that will stay with them for life.’  In 2018 the Shipwrights’ Company funded a scheme by the charity to train watchkeepers and since then Adventures Offshore has gone from strength to strength developing exciting new training programmes including a Young Sea Staff Scheme in 2019 and now in 2023 a Maritime Careers Pathway Scheme.  https://www.offshore.org.uk/

The Covid years were hard for all involved in Adventures Offshore but despite this several of their youngsters entered the Maritime industry via Glasgow City College, Fleetwood Nautical College and Britannia Royal Naval College, quite an achievement for a small charity run entirely by volunteers and with only two boats, both Oyster 49’s.  The following links will take you to a report from one of those young people who began training at Fleetwood is at: Adventures Offshore Youngster in Training (002) and a collage of photos that demonstrate what Adventures Offshore get up to … and how much it is appreciated can be found at: Adventures Offshore (002).
