Turn to Starboard & ‘Spirit of Falmouth’

Turn to Starboard is a sailing charity that focuses on the Forces and uses Royal Yachting Association (RYA) courses to support Armed Forces personnel who have been affected by military operations.  Turn to Starboard also provides sailing trips for Service families affected by operations to spend some time together on a skippered yacht.  Look them up at: https://www.turntostarboard.co.uk/

Turn to Starboard has the tall ship ‘Spirit of Falmouth’ as their flag ship and during some routine maintenance work in November 2023, rot was discovered in her main mast.  Upon further investigation, the foremast and topmast were also found to need major repairs.  The main, top and fore masts were all subsequently condemned by the surveyor and it was decided that full replacement was the best course of action at a cost of £62,148.

The Shipwrights’ Company donated £2,000 to support the repairs and has received a delightful letter of thanks from Turn to Starboard which can be found here.
