Royal Yacht Squadron Foundation – Marine Careers Fair

The Shipwrights were honoured to attend a marine careers fair hosted in Cowes, Isle of Wight at the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS). The event for young people on the island aimed to showcase the range of opportunities available to them in the marine and maritime sectors on the Island and in the surrounding Solent region. The exhibitors ranged from local boatyards to global shipping businesses, from the team challenging for the America’s Cup to the Royal Navy and every type of marine enterprise in between. The event formed part of the RYS Foundations activities to help disadvantaged young people on the Island to gain a foothold in a career in marine occupations with funding and contacts. The day was very well organised and the hosts could not have been more accommodating, we had a fantastic day talking to young people and businesses about apprenticeship training. Special thanks goes to Lewis Wilde, apprentice at Island RIBs for helping on the stand and talking about his own experiences to the visitors. Please follow the link to the RYS Foundation website for more info on their work and please see video highlights from the day below.
