The Medusa Trust

The Medusa Trust owns and operates HMS MEDUSA, a WWII \vessel registered with National Historic Ships and one of the National Historic Fleet.  In June 2026 the Shipwrights’ Company awarded the Medusa Trust £500 to assist with sea-going training for the Volunteer Cadet Corps (VCC).  Medusa hosts three weekends a year for the VCC and weekends on Medusa comprise the Saturday when cadets are taught all aspects of operating the vessel. They then stay on board overnight and prepare the vessel for sea the next day. On the Sunday they are taken to sea and execute the passage plan prepared the day before.

The Medusa Trust held its first cadet weekend of the year on 27-28 June when four cadets from Portsmouth and four from Lympstone joined. The weekend followed the normal format of teaching on Saturday, them spending a night on board Saturday night including conducting evening colours and morning colours on Sunday.   They then enjoyed a day at sea and practiced what they had learnt on Saturday and experienced working as a team to operate the vessel.  A short video of the activity can be found here:
