Shipwrights’ vs Ironmongers’ Golf Match 2023

This years golf match against the Ironmongers was played at Denham Golf Club on Tuesday 20 June.

The heavens had opened during a warm and sultry night and arrivals for the morning tee off times were somewhat delayed as a result of the weather and poor traffic. That’s life driving around London and the M25 ring!

Shipwrights had suffered a number of injuries to key players so we fielded some new faces, as did our opponents. With new Captains for both sides this seemed to mark a changing of the guard bringing on a new generation into this longstanding fixture.

All the matches were played in a tremendous spirit, with an underlay of keen competition between the sides. In the top match between the respective Captains and their partners the match went to the last putt on the last hole with the Ironmongers prevailing there. Matches thereafter went each way and with the last match won by the Shipwrights pair the match result was a half with the decanter and stand trophies being retained by the Shipwrights for 2023.

A convivial lunch was enjoyed in the sunshine on the Club lawns and both sides toasted their close relationship with each other. Long May it remain!
