Seas Your Future – Ocean Science Voyage
In June 2024 the Shipwrights awarded £3,510 to Seas Your Future which was used to enable three young people to benefit froan ocean science voyage in September. Simon Thorrington, Seas Your Future’s Development and Partnerships Manager, writes:
As you know we ask the young people who sail with us to complete pre and post-voyage questionnaires, for quality control and also to provide feedback to our funders. The Shipwright’s Company very kindly provided Seas Your Future with a grant of £3,510 to meet the costs of three youngsters on the Plymouth ocean science voyage from 12th to 20th September. Min and I thought you would like to see some early feedback, quotes we have taken from the questionnaires we have received, in the document here. It was a very successful voyage, followed on the final day by a presentation in the evening about their experience by some of the youngsters to families, friends, funders and other partners in Plymouth.
Also for the first time this year we had a volunteer videographer on most of our voyages, and for this voyage the videographer Megan Farrer did a super job, keeping a daily diary which you can see on our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@seasyourfuture1394
Thank you again for the financial support. As you can see from the feedback the impact of a voyage like this is significant, and can often be lifelong and life-changing. We will maintain contact with several of the youngsters, especially those who have expressed an interest in pursuing an education and employment pathway to a career in either the maritime sector or environmental science.
