Mike Carr, MD of of Pendennis Shipyard, visits Marcus Lewis Wooden Boatbuilder in Fowey.

Mike Carr, MD at Pendennis Shipyard dropped in at Marcus Lewis Wooden Boatbuilder, Fowey, Cornwall on Tuesday. Mike viewed some of the wonderful wooden boat building projects that Marcus and his outstanding apprentice Toby Poultney are currently undertaking. Most impressive! We are interviewing a number of apprentices we have sponsored on our Scheme as our contribution to National Apprenticeship Week 2022.

Marcus Lewis has been shortlisted for the Classic Boat Magazine Awards 2022 in the category ‘Restored Sailing Vessel under 40ft’ – The Troy no.12 Barbara. See our Twitter page for pictures of the Troy and a voting link: https://twitter.com/ShipApprentices/status/1489173277742444551

Toby has been involved in the sanding, painting and finishing off as well as the rigging, launching, and first sail of the Troy no.12. Most recently Toby has also been integral to the build of two new Fowey River Dinghies. He is now in his final year of the apprenticeship and is preparing for his End Point Assessment at Falmouth Marine School.

Mike Carr is a member of the Shipwrights Company Apprenticeship Scheme committee and was accompanied on the visit by Andy Levene, the Shipwrights Apprenticeship Scheme manager.
