Golf – The Shipwrights’ Salver

Fresh from halving our annual match with the Ironmongers, thus retaining the cherished inter livery decanter, a dozen Shipwrights gathered at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club on Monday 10 July to compete for the Shipwrights Salver. Inevitably there were some who couldn’t participate through illness, work commitments and holidays, but it was a fine day for golf and socialising. Competition was close…..but for second place only! Liveryman Roger Holt stunned us all (and himself!) with an outstanding stableford score of 38 points to run away with the Salver. Duncan Souster hit a monstrous drive to win the Longest Drive prize and Simon Jones struck a gorgeous iron shot to win the Nearest the Pin prize. Thanks are due to Patrick White for making the course available to the Shipwrights and for arranging the pairings on the day.

We have confirmed Tuesday 18 June 2024 for the Shipwrights v Ironmongers fixture at Denham Golf Club, and will likely return to Royal Wimbledon GC for the Shipwrights Salver once again in early July 2024. Make a note in your diaries!
