E&C Chair’s Visit to the Cirdan Sailing Trust ‘Patrons Day’

On Saturday 18 April the E&C Chair, Guy Campbell, visited the Cirdan Sailing Trust on their ‘Patrons Day’.  The Shipwright’s Company has established a good relationship with the Cirdan Sailing Trust to whom the E&C has made a number of awards over the years, the most recent being £2,000 in October 2024.   The Trust’s website is at:  https://www.cirdantrust.org/

“I joined the Cirdan Sailing Trust Patrons Day on Saturday at an ever so sunny North Fambridge in Essex.

This was their opportunity to thank their patrons which included the Shipwrights, Girdlers, and Dyers Companies as well as a local round table.

A UK-based charity that provides life-changing sailing experiences on large traditional vessels for disadvantaged people, young and old.  Their aim is to help people build self-development, confidence, and life skills through adventure at sea.    They work alongside youth leaders, psychologists, and team leaders to support individuals facing social, physical, or mental challenges.

The Shipwrights’ Company last donated (Responsive Donations) £2000 in November 2024 to support 5 disadvantaged young people to join one of their yachts on a short sea voyage.

All three yachts were here.  I joined their 22-meter training boat ‘Faramir’ for a short trip up and down the river Crouch, before we all re-grouped for lunch onboard their 33-meter, 1937 built ‘Queen Galadriel’.  They finished off with a shanty band on deck.

Most of the stories I heard onboard Faramir was their work with mental health, specifically people recovering from psychosis episodes as well as stories similar to those I have listened to with Tall Ships Trust with children from inner cities that have never sailed on a boat or even been outside their immediate urban neighborhoods.

A very enjoyable and impressive day with an extremely grateful group of trustees, crews and office-based team including their fundraisers.  I cannot help feeling this is just the sort of organization that meets the criteria of our E&C giving, so have encouraged them to stay in touch with us going forward.

I have attached a couple of flyers.

Regards

Guy”
