Annual Shipwrights vs Ironmongers’ Golf Match

The annual inter-Company Golf Match between the Shipwrights’ Company and the Ironmongers’ Company took pace on June 2024 at Denham Golf Club in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday 4 June 2024.

Following the match the Shipwrights’ Golf Secretary, Liveryman Mr Michael Kelleher sent the following message:

“I’m pleased to report that we retained coveted Golf decanter and stand at Denham Golf Club yesterday, by a score of 3 matches to 1, (in a Four Ball Better Ball Format) in cool but dry conditions against our old foes the Ironmongers.  It was a very friendly occasion, well hosted by Denham, and the course drew praise from players from both sides. Ironmongers played suitable tribute after the match to our hospitality.  The Wardens have bragging rights once again at their lunch with the Ironmongers at which the port will be served in the decanter! We hope to return to Denham for 2025’s match.”

 

The deacanter is engraved with the arms of both the Ironmongers’ Company and the Shipwrights’ Company and the base has plaques which together read “The Worshipful Company of Ironmongers Annual Golf Match V The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights”  and the winners are listed by year along the side.  At present the Shipwrights’ Company features most prominently!
