Shipwrights’ Donation to National Coastwatch, Southend

In November 2019 the Education and Charity Committee agreed to grant of £,1000 towards National Coastwatch, Southend’s new Watchstation Premises Project at Shoebury East Beach near Southend.  National Coastwatch, Southend is now pleased to report that the project was successfully completed by end-October 2020 despite the setbacks of the pandemic and associated funding issues – a major achievement largely attributable to the dedication and hard work of a small team of volunteers supported by generous donations by various sponsors including the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.

Tony Cooper of National Coastwatch, Southend writes: “We were able to re-start our watchkeeping activity over Shoebury East Beach albeit with single man watches due to Covid restrictions. The new watchstation premises are a great improvement and make us a more prominent feature in the area which is an aid to safety and also has prompted an increase in volunteer watchkeeper applications.”

The photographs below show the new premises and the view from within.
