This is Callum Ransley the newly appointed apprentice for Gosport Ferry. Callum, 17, a local Gosport resident, will be joining the engineering team at Gosport Ferry to look after the maintenance and up keep of their fleet of 5 vessels ranging in age from 1966 to 2015! Callum, who has already shown an interest in engineering by taking a short course at the nearby Centre of Excellence for Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Training (CEMAST), will be studying at the BAE Skills Training Centre in Portsmouth Naval Docks with tutors coming to assess his work on board.

Chris Waters, the Finance Director at Gosport Ferry, has been instrumental in establishing Callum as Gosport Ferry’s first apprentice and of her efforts General Manager Jerry Clarke says: “Chris has pushed very hard to get an apprentice at Gosport Ferry but without the Shipwrights assistance I don’t think it would have happened”

I was delighted to meet Callum and explain fully the Shipwrights involvement with his apprenticeship and he is looking forward to starting in September at the BAE Skills Training Centre and we wish him and Gosport Ferry every success.
