2016 Queen’s Silver Medal and Prize Winners Announced!

Last week the top six apprentices from the week’s challenges in Kielder, Northumberland arrived at Ironmongers Hall for the final round of the competition. They had already faced sleep deprivation, hikes over hills of midges and the chilly waters of Kielder Water but now they faced a panel of Shipwrights.

Following intensive interviews, where the Shipwrights on the organising panel of the Queen’s Silver Medal Competition asked probing questions about the apprentice’s experiences and goals for their professional lives, and following much deliberation decisions were made.

QSM winner Josh (2R) & Runner Up Rebecca (3R) celebrate their teams mostly successful passage with the Prime Warden

The awards have been issued and we can announce the winners as:

  • Joshua McKnight (Pendennis) – The Queen’s Silver Medal & £1,500
  • Struan Robertson (Babcock) – The Shipwrights’ Bronze Medal & £1,000
  • Lewis Fedrick (Babcock) – The Derek Kimber Medal & £750

Congratulations to the other finalists who were:

  • Courtney Mitchell (RNLI) – Finalist
  • Olivia Richards-Smith (Sunseeker) – Finalist

Having considered the Competition as a whole, the Committee determined that the level of training and support provided by Sunseeker to its apprentices should be recognised and Sunseeker have therefore been awarded the Company Prize.

The Shipwrights’ would like to congratulate every apprentice that took part and thank the Infinite Perspectives Team for once again putting on another fantastic week.
