Shipwrights’ Lectures 2016 – Dates and Key Speaker Announced!

Shipwrights’ Lectures – Date and Key Speaker Announced!

The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, with the support of the University of Southampton, arrange an afternoon of lectures annually to be presented to apprentices, young shipwrights, students and graduates by invited industry leaders. The purpose being to inspire and motivate young people engaged in the UK’s £3 billion unique international position in the super yacht, yacht and boat design & building industry. The annual lectures are held at the University of Southampton in October each year and are free to all attendees.

This year the panel discussion will cover ‘Construction Materials’ and again be chaired by Matthew Sheahan with contributors soon to be named. Following a marvellous talk from Henk Weikens last year on his experiences as an apprentice, founding Pendennis Shipyard and their challenging apprentice training programme we will be hearing, this year, from two of Pendennis’ apprentices.

Our key speaker is the internationally known yachtswoman and restoration exponent, Elizabeth Meyer, who restored the J Class Yachts Endeavour and Shamrock V along with many others as well as founding the International School of Yacht Restoration which has trained hundreds of students in classic yacht build and restoration skills. The closing speaker will be announced in the coming months.
