- All applications should be by letter, FAX, or email to the Clerk. They will be acknowledged, and if they do not fit the "maritime or waterborne" criteria, rejected at the same time.
- Grants for heritage projects, such as restoration of classic vessels, usually need to show:
- they are being used to train a young person/young people in traditional shipwrightry.
- the vessel is listed by the National Historic Ships Committee.
- If you want to apply for a grant to go to sea with one of the sea training organisations, please bear in mind the following:
- we (and the sea trainers too) expect you to raise some of your own money towards the cost of your berth.
- we will only contribute, as a maximum, about half the cost of a berth for the Tall Ships Race.
- you must make a convincing case why you should be given money by a charity - why do you need it?
- we require the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of two referees in positions of authority, who know you personally, and who are prepared to tell us what they know about you and your circumstances - in other words, to back up your application. Such people as teachers, employers, doctors, clergymen, and youth group leaders are suitable, but you must, out of courtesy, check with them beforehand that they are willing to give you a reference.
